Giants place Evan Longoria on IL with left oblique strain

On Wednesday, the San Francisco Giants placed infielder Evan Longoria on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain.

It's unclear when Longoria was injured, but he'll likely be out until after the all-star break.

Longoria is batting .242/.331/.462 with eight home runs and 18 RBI in 44 games for the Giants this season.

The 36-year-old had been on a bit of a hot streak lately. Longoria batted .311/.407/.533 with three home runs and six RBI over the last 13 games.

To fill Longoria's spot on the active roster, the Giants re-called catcher Joey Bart.

The Giants recently sent Bart down to Triple-A to work on his mechanics. In seven games with Sacramento, Bart batted .286/.355/.393 with a home run and four RBI.

Bart has struggled with the big club this season but looking to turn things around now that he's back with the Giants.

"I'm excited. I'm ready to compete," Bart told NBC Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic. "I'm ready to come in here and bring something. I know things haven't gone as well here as people would like, so with [David] Villar being here, with me coming back, with things going on, hopefully we can get this ship rolling and get back to winning and get back to Giants baseball."

In 36 games with the Giants this season, Bart batted .156/.296/.300 with four home runs and seven RBI.
