Watch: UAB HC Trent Dilfer completely lost his mind on assistant coaches

Former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Trent Dilfer is the new head coach at UAB and things are not off to a great start for him.

His frustration got the best of him on Saturday afternoon in a 35-23 loss to Tulane when he went completely nuclear on the sidelines, berating every assistant coach he could get near following a costly illegal substitution penalty in the fourth quarter.

Tulane was facing a fourth-down situation but was given a free first down following UAB's penalty.

Dilfer was not pleased and was not afraid to display his anger.

On one hand, you can understand Dilfer's frustration with an avoidable penalty that ended up being costly and a potentially game-changing moment.

There is also something to be said for having some control over your emotions, keeping your composure and being a leader. You almost never see these sorts of outbursts from NFL coaches, especially successful ones.

This is also not the first time we have seen Dilfer lose his cool on the sidelines. He also had this incident when he was coaching high school football a few years ago.

Dilfer's UAB team is 1-4 on the season after Saturday's loss. All four losses have come against FCS teams, where the Blazers have allowed an average of 43.5 points per game.

Their only win was a 35-6 season-opening win against FBS school North Carolina A&T.

UAB went 7-6 a year ago and won the Bahamas Bowl against Miami (Ohio).
