Lathan Ransom OUT For Remainder of Regular Season With Injury
Mark Hoffman / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel-USA TODAY NETWORK

The Ohio State Buckeyes  have suffered a major loss to their defense, with head coach Ryan Day announcing that safety Lathan Ransom will miss the remainder of the regular season with a lower-body injury.

Early in the fourth quarter of their win vs. Wisconsin earlier this month, Ransom was knocked out of the game with what appeared to be a lower-body injury.

The injury appeared to come on a non-contact play, with Ransom immediately heading to the injury tent for further evaluation. Ransom was then carted to the locker room by the Ohio State medical staff.

In the team's matchup vs. Michigan State on Saturday, Ransom was seen using a scooter with a walking boot on his foot.

When asked about Ransom's status after the Michigan State game, Day described the injury as 'long term.'

“Lathan’s (injury) is more long-term," Day said. "But I think with (Josh Proctor), we’re gonna get him back here real soon.”

Day did leave open the possibility of Ransom returning for the postseason - perhaps even the Big Ten title game, should the Buckeyes make it to Indianapolis.

Sitting fourth on the team in tackles, Ransom had 31 total tackles (20 solo and 11 assisted), to go along with one interception, two pass breakups, a forced fumble, a QB hurry, and .5 tackles for loss coming into the game.

Ransom has suffered a serious injury before, being carted off of the field in the 2022 Rose Bowl as well, breaking his leg against the Utah Utes.

Ransom, however, was able to come back from that injury, and return to his previous form as a star on the Ohio State defense.
